Scandinavian Biopharma’s clinical phase IIb study in Benin has become a documentary
Mia Halme’s documentary, People We Come Across follows Scandinavian Biopharma’s vaccine study in Benin where more than 700 Finnish tourists travelled on a holiday as research volunteers. Professor Anu Kantele at the University of Helsinki was in charge of the successful diarrhoea vaccine study. The documentary describes the interactions between the inhabitants of the fishing village of Grand Popo and the Finnish participants. It paints a picture of the willingness to help but also its difficulties – but most of all it is a story about human encounters. With the beautiful nature as a backdrop, we follow Professor Anu Kantele’s great interest in improving the lives of the villagers. The film can be seen at DocPoint, one of the largest documentary festivals in the Nordic countries.
